Biography

Mathieu Weiler was born in Grenoble en 1976. 

He joined Paris at the age of three and then left for Brussels at the age of fourteen. He studied a year at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels before joining the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris in Jean-Michel Alberola's studio where he began his series on highways and cinematography. He graduated in 2001 with the congratulations of the jury (Christian Bernard presides over the jury). In 2003 Mathieu Weiler became a resident at the Villa Medicis. It is a year of research on the link between painting and cinema, he works in the studio of Ingres. He explains his research in the Balthus workshop at the French Academy in Rome. From 2004 to 2006 he works at the Recollets Center in Paris. In 2006 he obtained a residence in the art center "La synagogue de Delmes" in Lorraine. In 2011 he worked at the Darling Foundry in Montreal. In 2015, he continued his research in Chicago at the Hyde Park Art Center.

He has been working since 2008 at La Ruche in Paris.
